Profile

This slightly out-of-the-way Chelsea gallery deserves more attention for the eccentric, intriguing shows it has been doing. This year gray was the subject of a whole Jasper Johns survey at the Met. At Dinter, gray is explored again to wonderful effect. There is an elegant, almost Florentine 1989 painting of a door and window, created by the late Jessie Wood, that a museum should buy immediately. Also excellent are works by Karen Flatow, James Osborne, Wayne Gonzales, and Arlene Shechet, all of whom—like this gallery—deserve higher profiles.
