Profile
If the mark of a good cinematographer is a distinctive and consistent style, then what do we make of one whose lens seems to change with every film? BAM makes the persuasive argument for Ed Lachman’s cinematic genius with this retrospective, which surveys a scatterbrained but inspired body of work ranging from Desperately Seeking Susan to I’m Not There. The cinematographer makes his personal appearance early on in the run, sitting down with fellow artistic chameleon David Byrne to talk about his leapfrog career as well as their work together on the bizarre and beautiful True Stories.
